What is the secret to managing a successful proposal?

Understanding the communication and work styles of the various members of the proposal team, agile thinking, and a firm yet understated approach to the deadlines. Naturally, keeping a pulse on the writers’ team and staying abreast of decisions within the capture team go a long way. And, of course, serenity and patience!

Any tips for writing a winning proposal?

Writers must understand, I mean, wholly understand the vision of the offeror and the proposed solution to clearly articulate and tailor it to the customer.

Biggest proposal pet peeve?

“Passing the buck”.

Where was your last vacation and what was the highlight of the trip?

I spend the summers in Spain and try to make it to another place within the EU. Last was Italy. It had been 33 years since I lived there and I can tell you things were different. The highlight was seeing the Colosseum cleaned up from all the grime and pollution; magnificent.

Do you have any hidden talents?

Possibly. I have done many things besides consulting including developing, designing condominiums in DC, owning a restaurant. . .some people contend I could have been an interior designer in another life.

If you could meet anyone in the world (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

It would be too obvious or too hard to choose. I believe I have met all the people I am meant to meet.
